Irina Bara & Ekaterine Gorgodze move past Begu & Mitu, reach TO’s doubles final!

Romanian Irina Bara and Georgian Ekaterine Gorgodze reached Transylvania Open’s doubles final after an intense match, decided in a super-tiebreak. They moved past the Romanian pair Irina Begu/Andreea Mitu: 6-3, 2-6, 10-7. Bara & Gorgodze had a fantastic comeback in the decisive set: first they leveled from 1-4 to 4-4, and then managed to won 6 consecutive points, from 4-7 to 10-7.

Irina and Ekaterine proved they feel good pairing together and that they’ve become a strong team. A few weeks ago they won the title in Karlsruhe (WTA 125), where they defeated the pair Mayar Sherif/Katarzyna Piter.

This will be Irina Bara’s first ever WTA final – a significant result, which can help her a lot from now on especially if she could transfer some confidence and experience to her singles matches. As for Gorgodze, she is now in her second WTA doubles final, after Palermo 2019.

In the doubles final Irina and Ekaterine will face either Dzalamidze/Juvan or Krunic/Pattinama Kerkhove. Dzalamidze/Juvan are the Winners Open title holders, so they will try to get a double in Cluj.
